The State of Connecticut has an amazing history! From small towns to big cities, from sandy beaches to wooded forests, from the first colonists to our newest immigrants there are a lot of great stories, legends and histories to tell about our state. A Connecticut Sampler will bring parts of this history to life in your classroom. Using objects from the museum collection, hands on activities and role-play we'll explore Connecticut's political, military and industrial history. Topics will include the founding of Connecticut, early settlers, the Charter Oak legend, Connecticut nicknames and place names (including some in your town), Connecticut inventors and inventions, Connecticut's role in the military and life in Connecticut today. A Connecticut Sampler is best suited for students in the third grade and above. The program has been designed to meet a number of State of Connecticut Department of Education standards in history and technology education. This 60 minute program can be presented as an outreach program at your school, library or other site. Maximum group number per program is 25 children. Dates and times for the program are limited but we will do our best to work with your schedule. There is no fee for the program.
